Spring is almost here, bringing with it a sense of rejuvenation and growth, so what better time to turn our thoughts to the renewal of our own bodies and minds? If you’re a veteran, you’re no stranger to a vigorous workout, but as we all know, there’s more to good health than strenuous exercise.
So in the spirit of all things refreshing, we’re about to take a look at a few organizations that make it easier for vets to stay fit, inside and out, by offering everyday discounts.
Gym Memberships
Gold’s Gym - Veterans receive a discounted enrolment fee of $49 and 20 percent off monthly dues.
Lift for the 22 - This outstanding nonprofit organization provides donated gym memberships to eligible vets nationwide.
Catch a Lift - Another great nonprofit, this one helps post-9/11 wounded vets obtain gym memberships, personalized fitness/nutrition programs, peer support, etc.
Fitness/Outdoor Apparel & Gear
35 Percent off - Coleman lands the top spot with this generous offer, plus orders over $49 ship for free.
20 Percent Off - 20 percenters include Eastbay, Champs Sports, Foot Locker, Six:02, Oakley and FootAction
10 Percent Off - Rounding out the pack are Nike, Under Armour, Orvis, Eastern Mountain Sports and TGW.
Nutrition and Supplements
CVS offers 20 percent off plus free shipping, while GNC is a close second with 15 percent off and free shipping on orders over $49. And let’s not forget Walrgreens, with its buy one, get one free offer on Nature Made vitamins and supplements.
Veterans Therapy & Healing Programs
Hands for Heroes is a wonderful, nationwide organization of healthcare professionals who donate their time to provide therapeutic massage to qualified veterans. A list of providers is available on their website, but if there’s not one in your area, this is an opportunity your local massage therapist might want to hear about.
Weightless Warriors is a generous group of float spa owners who have joined together to provide free float therapy to veterans suffering from PTSD. Providers can be found on their website, but if you know of a float spa owner who hasn’t signed up yet, this may be a cause they’d like to support.
The Veterans Project makes it possible for qualified vets and their families to receive free or low-cost (but safe) acupuncture treatments to combat everything from PTSD to chronic pain to anxiety. Once again, a list of providers is available on their website.
Make Sure to Have You DD-214 Form Handy
In order to take part in the savings and/or programs we’ve listed, you’ll have to provide proof of service, which is why all vets should have a copy of their DD214s. But what if you’re one of the surprising number of vets who, for one reason or another, have no idea where it is?
Sure, you could go the eVetRecs route, print out your request form, sign it, mail it in and wait weeks (sometimes months) for a mailed response. Or, you could start your new health regimen much sooner by contacting DD214Direct.com.
Our professional, courteous team members will start working on your request immediately, leveraging a comprehensive knowledge of not only the National Archives, but also the over 100 records repositories across the country that exist separately. And, unlike eVetRecs, we can actually email you a copy of your DD-214!
No stress, no hassle, no problem.
